One of the Core Values of Hope Community Church is Responsible Stewardship. That is to say, we desire to care for and use all the resources and gifts God places at our disposal and endows us with, in ways that honor Him and advance His kingdom throughout the world.
Part of responsible stewardship is collecting financial offerings. We do this two main ways. Through the offering boxes near the doors in the church building, and through online donations. Because HCC is a registered charity we issue receipts for tax purposes to all those who make donations to the church. A donation to HCC is a great way to be involved in what the Lord is doing here in Lennoxville and it reduces the income tax that you pay to the Federal and Provincial governments. Support the work at HCC and pay less at tax time! Win-win!
The General Fund is what we call the account that pays all the bills. It pays salaries, it pays for events like the Fall Kick-off. It buys materials for Sunday school and the library. It pays for janitorial services, food for church dinners and so on and so forth. We encourage you to make your donation to the general fund unless you feel the Lord leading you to give to one of our other funds.
These other funds include, but aren’t limited to, the Cornerstone food bank, the Barnabas fund, which is used to help folks with emergency needs, the building renovation fund, and the missions fund to name a few. Feel free to talk to me if you’re unsure about how best to designate your gift.
Offering boxes and envelopes
If you prefer to give a check or cash, the offering boxes near the door are the way to go! We can provide you with offering envelopes that make it easier for us to issue your tax receipts at the end of the year. The envelopes for 2018 have been placed in the mailboxes at the back of the church. If you’ve never had offering envelopes but would like to, please see me and I’d be happy to get you some!.
Here is an example of a properly filled out offering envelope. Notice that you don’t write your name on the envelope. The number in the corner is exclusive to you, and so no name is required. You can write in the amounts that you would like to designate to special funds as well as the amount for the general fund. Please take the time to fill in the total for the Special Fund as well as the total enclosed. We take accuracy very seriously when we count the offerings and your help with this makes things run smoothly.
I’d be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about filling out the offering envelope. Please don’t hesitate to ask!
In the past few years we’ve added the option to give online through Canada Helps. That’s a great organization that helps make online giving possible for small charities in Canada. With the arrival of our Smartphone app we’ve been able to incorporate secure online giving directly through our app and also on our website. If you’ve been giving through Canada Helps in the past I’d really like to encourage you to switch over to giving through our app or our website.
You can continue to give one time gifts of make scheduled recurring donations, in addition to monthly donations our app also allows weekly and biweekly scheduled gifts. You’ll need to create an account the first time so that you can securely login, but after that the process is very simple. I’ve been testing this method for two months and the system works great!.
The main reason we’re encouraging you to switch from giving through Canada Helps, to our own system is that the credit card fees that are charged for each and every credit card transaction you make, are over 1% lower with our own giving platform. That means that if you make a $100 dollar donation, Visa or MasterCard will pocket one dollar less and HCC will receive it instead!
I’d love to help you get your 2018 charitable giving started by answering any questions you may have! This is a really long e-mail so I’ll quit now, but please contact me with any questions you may have!
Thanks so much for helping HCC reach Lennoxville and the world with the Gospel!
